Special needs

The Museum works with various groups with special needs and we are happy to work with you to tailor your visit to your own requirements. All of our workshops can be adapted in order to make them more suitable. We always welcome partnerships and consultation with group leaders in order to improve and develop more stimulating and interesting workshops for special needs groups.

The George Marshall Medical Museum is fully wheelchair accessible and we have an audio loop in both the Museum and the lecture theatre. We also have a hand-held audio guide and two touch-screen computers, and there is a disabled toilet just outside the Museum.

New resources for visually impaired visitors, 2011

Thanks to Jade, one of our work experience students from New College, Worcester, and Small Grants funding from our Museum Development Officer, we now offer a podcast that aims to guide visually impaired visitors around the Museum. With Jade as narrator, the podcasts describe key objects in each case and highlight physical features of the Museum space and how to access facilities in the Charles Hastings Education Centre.

We have five iPod Nanos with attached iTells (from Cobolt Speechmaster), as well as five sets of headphones and large print versions of this guide available to read. Early in 2012, students currently in years 7,8 and 9 at New College will be test-driving these for us to see whether or not they help create a good visit! Watch this space, as once tested, the podcasts will be available to download from the website to enable visitors to access the information in advance of coming to the Museum. In the meantime, we are happy to

e-mail them on application. Get in touch here.
