Family Open Day 27th March 2010
Mind Over Matter: the brain and the mind throughout history
The Museum opened its doors to visitors on Saturday 27th March to celebrate our death masks (as featured in the BBC and British Museum online project, A History of the World in 100 Objects) and also our film project, Medicine at the Movies, which created four films about Powick Mental Hospital.
Visitors made their own phrenology busts (now on display at the Museum until 14th June 2010), and were able to speak to a Victorian mental health nurse (re-enactor Glo Pringle, of Mr. and Mrs. History) to find out how mental illness was treated in the past.
Alex from No.10 Sansome Place came and expertly discussed the Medicine at the Movies film project with visitors.

Members from Art in Minds group came and displayed their works of art to visitors. Art in Minds is a project run from the Shrub Hill Workshop in Worcester and provides a safe, supportive and professional way for those with experience of mental distress to show and possibly sell their work with pride. If you haven't seen any of their artwork, do check it out online HERE.
The County Museum on the Move van also came along for the day and is currently travelling around Worcestershire and Warwickshire with objects from our collection on display! The theme this year is Remember...Your Memories Matter. Find out more HERE.
