Family Open Day August 2008: Celebrating 60 years of the NHS!

 

The Museum chose to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the National Health Service by holding an open day in this year's Worcester Festival. We demonstrated the changes in health care from WW2 to the present day. We invited a World War 2 army field hospital along, courtesy of Fred and Margaret Brown (email: fredrickhnr@aol.com), to show visitors what life was like for a patient on the front line:

 

We also invited a large number of retired nurses to demonstrate their 1950s and '60s nursing techniques, including bandaging methods, which went down well with the visitors on the day:
